--------------------------------------------
Say hello to Nutmeg the floppy-eared goat! This beautifully patterned plushie was inspired by the Anglo-Nubian goat and sports one of the many fur patterns that can be found within the breed.
The predecessors of this popular breed first started appearing around English port cities. They were cross-breeds between local Milch goats and lop-eared goats that were arriving with trading ships from India, North Africa and the Middle East. These imported goats were referred to as "Nubians" by the French. Back in those days cargo ships would be sailing for many months to reach their destinations and goats were brought along to provide a source of fresh meat and milk. At the end of such a trip the surplus bucks would be sold off to local goat keepers, who would then cross-breed them with their own goats. The resulting offspring would often inherit characteristics from the siring bucks, such as a larger body size, short silky fur, lop ears and a roman nose. By 1893 these crosses were being referred to as Anglo-Nubian goats. A few years later Sam Woodiwiss set out to establish the Anglo-Nubian as a breed, through controlled breeding. In the years that followed he imported four bucks from different countries along the Eastern trade route that would become the founding fathers of the breed as we know it today.
“Unfortunately for people who like peace and quiet, that nose acts like the bell of a horn. Nubians are noted for loud voices, a tendency to stubbornness, and an unqualified dislike of rain, but the babies are so darned cute it’s easy to overlook the personality flaws.” Jerry Belanger and Sara Thomson Bredesen,
Storey’s Guide to Raising Dairy Goats.
Item description:
This handmade goat plushie stands about 28 cm tall and is assembled from a whopping 119 individually sewn pieces. It is made from a combination of realistic looking faux furs with a flat lying pile. Nutmeg has a beautiful face with a surprising amount of both light and dark markings, all of which have been sewn by hand. The main color for this plushie is a beautiful chestnut brown. The secondary color is creamy white, followed by black. Nutmeg has large, white ears with pale beige insides, brown slit-pupil eyes and cream colored eye patches. The face is striped and has a dark brown forehead, with a patch of white located on the top of the head. The muzzle is mostly white with brown edges. The mouth area is dark grey, same as the v-shaped nose. Nutmeg has black leg markings and a clearly defined dorsal stripe, that starts halfway down the neck and stops just short of the tail, which combine all three main colors. The feet are a very dark shade of grey, close to black.
This plushie will be made upon order. As with all items in my store, the above plushie was designed by me and will also be reproduced by me. A lot of effort and care goes into making a realistic plushie like this. Particularly into the markings and the many details of the head and feet, which are all hand sewn and contain many minuscule parts that are notoriously hard to assemble.
Materials:
This plushie will be made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free as I have cats.
The body will be made from a combination of faux furs with short, flat lying pile of 4mm in lenght. Synthetic suede, a fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and has a soft feel to it, will be used for the nose and feet. Short pile minky will be used for the furry parts of the muzzle and upholstery grade velour will be used for the tongue. The plushie will be fitted with plastic safety eyes that measure 15 mm across and are fastened with washers. Imitate leather will be used to outline the eyes to improve their shape and to make them more life like. The body will be stuffed with siliconized polyester fibers until firm enough for the plushie to stand properly.
Finishing a made-upon-order plushie usually takes me 1-3 weeks, but I may need longer, depending on how busy I am at the time of the order. Once finished the plushie will be shipped within 2-3 workdays.
Usage:
This plushie is best used as an ornamental piece for indoors decoration purposes. It is not suitable as a toy and should be kept away from young children and pets at all times. It can be used for play with older children if handled gently. Keep in mind though, that this is an artist doll. It is a work of art and not a toy. The plushie can't be washed if it gets dirty and may easily get damaged.
