Item Description:

This handmade cow plushie stands about 28 cm tall and is made to be semi-posable, meaning that it is able to alter between basic standing and sitting positions. It is made in a lifelike style and features markings that were inspired by the Pinzgauer cattle breed. The plushie is rich in realistic details. The muzzle, for example, has proper nostrils and a slightly opened mouth, with a little tongue that can be tucked away inside it. The feet have been given just as much attention to detail and sport actual cloven hooves and petite dew claws. Every single one of these tiny details, along with the aforementioned body markings have been assembled by hand. All in all this highly decorative plushie is made from a whopping 116 handsewn pieces!

About the breed:

Pinzgauer is a hardy breed of alpine cattle that originates from the western part of central Austria. The Pinzgauer was established as an official breed in 1896 and had been known under many local names before that, such as Pongauer, Brixentaler and Salzburger Schecken, to name a few. It was originaly developed as a triple purpose breed. Pinzgauer oxen were highly priced for their many excelent qualities, which made them surperior working animals. In its heyday the Pinzgauer became the most popular cattle breed throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Demand for working oxen began to plummet, following the 1st World War and the rise of mechanized farming. Agricultural changes during the 2nd World War would see the breed's numbers further diminished. Self-sustainability was of paramount importance for Nazi-Germany as the conquering nation. Most of the available farmland had to be devoted to the growing of crops for human food, which led to less fodder being available for the keeping of animals. This arrangement meant that priority had to be given to milk producing cows, while the breeding and raising of cattle for beef had to be heavily restricted. The milk industry would continue to grow in post war Austria and the main breeding grounds of the Pinzgauer.

Pinzgauer cattle have beautiful horns with dark tips and a finched color pattern. The head, neck, flanks and lower legs are pigmented, while the rest of the body is white. Chestnut brown is the most common main color. Individuals with black main color have occured throughout the history of the breed and were often kept for good luck. Selective breeding, along with the relative scarcity of purebred Pinzgauers has made them very rare. There is also a genetically hornless subtype of the breed called Jochberger Hummel, which is listed as endangered.

Materials:

This plushie has been made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free as I have cats.

The body is made from two shades of super soft rabbit style faux fur with a pile length of about 7 mm. The tail tip is made of high quality mongolian faux fur. The nose and feet are made from synthetic suede, a fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and has a soft feel to it. The furry parts of the muzzle are made from minky and the tongue is made from velour. The plushie has been fitted with 14 mm plastic safety eyes. Black imitate leather has been used to outline the eyes, in order to improve their shape and make them look more lifelike. Siliconized polyester fibers have been used to stuff the plushie. The legs have been sealed off internally, allowing them to be more firmly stuffed than the rest of the body. Plastic beads have been added to the tail tip and feet for extra weight.

Usage:

This plushie is best used as an ornamental piece for indoors decoration purposes or as a photo prop. It is not suitable as a toy and should be kept away from young children and pets at all times. It can be used for play with older children if handled gently. Keep in mind though, that this is an artist doll. It is a work of art and not a toy. The plushie can't be washed if it gets dirty and may easily get damaged.
